JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading process development and manufacturing engineering for transducer and catheter assembly manufacturing areas. Assures that the manufacturing processes are predictable, cost effective and reliable. Responsible for leading cost reduction activities across all product lines. Responsible for providing engineering support for new product launches.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures that the organizational structure, technical capability, resources and processes exist to achieve the current and future objectives of the operation.
- Develops the strong technical, operational and project management skills within the team.
- Provides technical leadership and expertise to the entire organization on process related issues.
- Ensures development, approval and achievement of department budget.
- Provides sustaining engineering support to the manufacturing operation; implements and maintains data collection, measurement and process feedback mechanisms. Implements and maintains process control systems for critical operations.
- Continuously looks for opportunities to upgrade the transducer and catheter assembly processes.
- Develops and implements improved microelectronics manufacturing processes for transducer assembly including new automated equipment. Assures controlled development, characterization and implementation of these processes.
- Identifies and implements process and product improvement opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs while improving yields and product quality.
- Assures that the team utilizes robust problem solving and experimental design techniques as they conduct the product and product optimization.
- Champions continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Assures excellent communication of new product development projects including active participation in the planning and execution of manufacturing engineering’s tasks.
- Supports limited product redesign on issues related to manufacturability.
- Assures that the new product processes comprehends and ensures product reliability on all new products. Actively participates in the technical analysis and assessment of customer complaints and assures that appropriate action is underway to address the important problems.
- Actively supports manufacturing teams cost, cycle time and delivery objectives.
- Assures that the team maintains up-to-date process documentation, including work instruction and travelers.
- Assures that the management processes within manufacturing and product development comply with the Quality System and Regulatory requirements.
- Develops a culture within the department and in the broader organization dedicated to the highest levels of quality and customer service, provides service excellence.
- As necessary, performs other duties as required.<p>
EDUCATION:
BS degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent technical discipline with advanced Engineering Degree a plus.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires 10+ years experience as an engineer in medical technology with experience in the design and manufacturing of catheters
- Requires 8+ years experience working as the leader of technical teams at the Manager or Director level
- Medical device experience and familiarity with GMP and ISO regulatory requirements.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong process orientation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties including Company management and outside business associates
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with department guidelines
- Ability to effectively manage and communicate at all levels in the organization.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:
Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems; ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to hear and speak to employees and outside business associates on the phone and in person.
- Ability to see the letters and numbers on a personal computer screen and on memos, reports and other documents (near vision).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Directs exempt and nonexempt employees; makes hire, termination, promotion and merit decisions.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel to and from Volcano offices or customer/vendor locations both domestically and internationally.
